We'll See You Soon

Mortality is hard. Saying, "We'll see you in the next life! Pick out a nice plot of land for us. Make sure it's near all the rest of the family! Say hi to all our ancestors. Give Grandma and Grandpa Elizondo a hug and kiss for me! Tell Aunt Martha we miss her. Let Great-Grandma Burnham know how much we look up to her, and her example. Tell my future children all the pain and hardships are worth it. We'll see you soon." ...... that's hard.

I know that's the Plan. I know we need to die in order to progress. And, goodness, I'm jealous of my Grandma, getting to go on to the next life! To leave the pain of mortality behind! To become whole again. To get to run and jump with Aunt Martha, and Great-Grandma Burnham, and all our other ancestors.  To be able to say, yes, I did it! I stayed faithful! I endured to the end, even though it was unbelievably hard. I lived life to the fullest, met some amazing people, traveled to some pretty awesome places, raised a wonderful family, met the love of my life, and grew closer to Christ. I envy the joy she must be feeling at this moment. The happy tears being shed, on seeing all our loved ones on the other side.

That doesn't make saying good-bye any easier. To think I only have one grandparent left living on this earth is a weird thought. I guess that's why families are forever; could you imagine being separated from your relatives/loved ones forever? Ok, I'm sure some of you would jump for joy not to be related to certain people.... but, the joy that we were meant to experience comes because of the eternal nature of our families. I'm so grateful to be sealed to my family forever. I don't know what I would do without that hope and belief that we will all be made whole in the next life, because of Christ, and that we will be together forever, progressing eternally. I love that. Life would be a bleak place without that knowledge.

So, this is good-bye, Grandma, for now. This is a, I'll see you soon! This is a thank you for all the sacrifices you made for your family. This is a shout out for all the effort you made to be at all our important life events. This is a giant hug for being such a wonderful grandmother. This is a reverenced awe at all you have accomplished in your life. This is mostly a mess of words as I try aimlessly to think of a way to convey my love to you, and all you have done for us in your lifetime. Good-bye, Grandma... for now. See you on the other side.
