"What is Optimism?"
It has been a busy summer. That's my excuse for never writing anymore. I've been making so many life changes... I don't know where to begin. Every time I try to start writing, I realize there's too much and not enough time. However, today is the 24th of July, which in Utah means no wok, because it is Pioneer Day! Love, love, love days off! I figured I would try to update my blog, which I have not done in TWO months!
First, I went through the temple on May 31st. Best. Decision. of. My. Life. I'm serious. I love it. I was so grateful to have my parents and aunt and uncle come into town, as well as friends who were able to go though with me. I am obsessed. The biggest thought that went through my head when I went through was "why did I wait so long to do this?" I loved every minute of it, and have been back a lot... it's mostly consumed my summer. I keep having to remind myself to not forget about the rest of the world and only try to live in the temple. I had this thought while I was there one time that as much as I wanted to live in the temple, I needed to live in the outside world as well, so as to gain all the experiences that I can and learn and progress as much as I can. I would learn a lot in the temple, but I need the outside experiences too. I will probably cut my visits back to just once a week once fall hits, as that's usually really busy, but right now I'm spoiled, going to all the temples in the Salt Lake valley. Beautiful! I encourage all of you to go often. It's the best blessing in the world.
One of my best friends, Jessica, got married in June. Ahh!!! I am beyond excited! I told her how sad I was, because I was losing my single friend that I've been friends with the longest... I mean, we talk all the time! All the time! She's helped me with so many guy problems... I told her now all her advice would be invalid, since she's married, and married people think they know everything, but they don't.... Just kidding! We're still friends, haha, and I still update her on my nonexistent guy life. It's wonderful. It was also great because all 5 of us, Annelise, Kandace, Heather, Jessica, and myself all got to hang out for it! I love these girls! I am so glad that 12 years later we are as good of friends as ever. It was so great catching up! And everyone is just moving on and doing so much! I have such impressive friends!
One of my other best friends, Chris, went through the temple in June. It's been a busy summer, I told you! That was exciting! We've had a ton of fun, going to all the temples together. I've been really sad, because her visa expired and she is heading back to Brasil next month, but we've been trying to do a bunch of stuff before she leaves. It's been a little hard because....
I got promoted at work! I know, you're all thinking, wait, didn't you just get promoted last summer? And you would be correct! I guess I just love higher education, haha! I am now the Assistant Registrar for Student Systems and Technology... or the IT Specialist. I am pretty much in love with the position! It's been weird not being in Scheduling, but I am still part of the Registrar's Office, so I still see them all the time. It's been really good to get to know all the offices on a deeper level. We have a lot of changes coming, and I hopefully will be a great help with them! It's great.
My little brother, Richard, and little sister, Emma, visited me from BYU-Idaho for the 4th of July! So great! We had a lot of fun just hanging out. I can't believe how old we all are! Emma turns 20 next week! EMMA! That's crazy! I feel like we should all travel back in time and live in our childhood again. That would be amazing! It's so weird to see Darcie preparing to go off to BYU-Idaho in September. It's just going to be Hyrum home with my parents! Weird!
My aunt Patty came into town right after my siblings left. She is my dad's sister, and it was great to see her and her family! I haven't seen my extended family in years, for the most part! I love family because we can all get together after extended periods of time and still have fun, because we're family!
Finally, I was involved with Institute Choir again this summer. It was... an interesting experience, and I'm not sure if I'll do choir again this coming school year, but it's been great music, and our performances have been so awesome! We had one this past Sunday in the Assembly Hall on temple square, and we did the Sunrise Service this morning in the Tabernacle on temple square. So fun! I love music.
Anyway, that is the update on my life. Well... the general stuff. I feel like my life has turned inside out and upside down and it's crazy and exhausting and it's going nonstop.... I graduated from college three years ago this week, and looking at even just this summer it's been great to see how far I've come. So grateful for all the opportunities that have been given me!
