How Horrible It Is That People Have To Grow Up!

The other day I got a letter from my good old friend, Spencer Larson. He's serving with my little brother, Richard, in Florida, and has gotten to be good friends with him. He asked me a bunch of funny-ish questions, and one of them was if I could be any Disney princess, which would I be? I of course automatically chose Belle in my head, just because we are both brunettes, and none of the other princesses are. And then I really started thinking, and I realized there are a lot of similarities between Belle and me, and she really was the perfect fit. I realized we both are independent women, who love to think, meet new people, and most importantly, we love to read.

Today at work I was talking to an employee at the museum and we got into the discussion of literature. I was asked what I was reading right now and I stumbled over a response. What was I reading?! I could not recall. I was so embarrassed. I remembered an hour later that I was reading the Anne of Green Gables series. I know, I know, a little girls book. Whatever. I love L.M. Montgomery's style of writing. She's amazing. I wish more people were like her now. Anyways, this really hit me, because I have always been such a big reader. I majored in history and minored in humanities in college, plus I took AP literature in high school. Trust me, I've done a LOT of reading in my day. I love the classics. I love Shakespeare. I am a sucker for George Orwell. If you hand me Dante's Inferno, I will devour it. My last semester of college I wrote a paper on Mark Twain, because I find his style of writing so exceptional.

I was so disappointed in myself for not having a better response today. I was only thinking "what would all my professors in college think if they saw me not using my mind?" It was terrible. I felt like a failure. I'm going home in a couple weeks, and I have decided to bring my book collection with me when I return. I know. I am a major nerd. I majored in history; what else could I be?!
